Google has announced a few improvements for Chrome browser in order to protect users against dangerous websites and phishing pages.

Starting with Google Chrome 75, the applying integrates a brand new warning whenever a confusing URL is loaded, and with the assistance of a passionate extension, users can report pages they think could pose a threat to their devices to the search giant.

This way, Google says, the organization can expand its blacklist and help protect others too, all utilizing a community-driven system that flags dangerous websites.

Microsoft itself is offering a method to report unsafe links in the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, but this time, the operation is a little bit more straightforward and relies on systems produced by the software giant itself to bar malicious pages.

A new Microsoft Edge browser is currently in development, because the Redmond-based software giant migrates to Chromium, exactly the same engine that powers Google Chrome. Preview builds already are on Windows 10, older Windows, and macOS.

How you can benefit by an unsafe page to Microsoft is pretty simple actually. The option can be obtained in the actual menu of the browser at:

Microsoft Edge > Menu > Help and feedback > Report unsafe site

Microsoft doesn't need you to enter too many details about the page you're reporting, so you only need to tell the company if you think the page is safe or unsafe, indicate the language used on the website, and resolve a captcha to assist fight spam.

And that's practically all about it.

However, Microsoft doesn't make use of the same blacklist as Google, albeit the 2 tech giants cooperating on the common system that might be integrated into their browsers would help build a a lot more effective protection tool against dangerous websites.

The software giant depends on its very own Windows Defender SmartScreen feature, which itself builds a database of potentially-dangerous links to block them on Windows as well as in Microsoft's browsers. We discussed more about SmartScreen here, but the essential part is this:

"Windows Defender SmartScreen uses information from Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Windows users around the world in addition to anti-virus results, download volumes, download history, URL reputation, and many other criteria to determine the likely chance of downloaded programs."

So once you report a webpage as very damaging, Microsoft engineers can determine whether it indeed posts a threat to visitors, and if it does, add it to the SmartScreen blocklist. When a link is positioned in this article, it should then be blocked on Windows 10 as well as in Microsoft's browsers, with a warning displayed whenever the dangerous content is going to be loaded.

Simultaneously, Windows users are also permitted to bypass the SmartScreen warnings, as well as in Microsoft Edge they can download files that are reported as unsafe. The easiest way to do this is to open the download manager, right-click the download and click Download unsafe file. If another warning shows up when attempting to operate the downloaded file, click the option that reads Run anyway.

Remember that the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge is still a work happening, so other improvements in this regard could soon make their way to the browser too.

Additionally, because it's according to Chromium, Microsoft Edge are now able to run Google Chrome extensions as well. This means Edge users may also install Google's extension for reporting malicious websites and send them to the search giant for further inspection.

As part of its efforts to overhaul Edge browser, Microsoft is making some pretty significant contributions towards the Chromium project, including features that become used by Google Chrome as well.

One of these most recent inclusions in the feature arsenal of both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome is support for YouTube thumbnails within the native media controls overlay in Windows 10.

While this may seem a very complex thing initially, it is, in fact, something that's really simple only supposed to make controlling media playback a more straightforward process.

First and foremost, what's the media controls overlay?

Also known as a popup, the media controls overlay in Windows 10 may be the box that turns up within the top left corner when pressing the multimedia keys around the connected keyboards. The on-display volume indicator, that has been redesigned in Windows 8 but still getting used by Windows 10, is displayed alongside additional media controls to go back to the previous song, toward the next, play and pause the playback.

Because of Microsoft's contribution to the Chromium engine, both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome now displays more information when playing media within the browsers and pressing the multimedia keys around the keyboard.

Which creates virtually any media website, including here YouTube, Vimeo, and others. The amount of information isn't necessarily overwhelming, but it does come in handy since it includes the video artwork along with the title from the playing media.

What's more, if several website is playing media, this media controls overlay has a small arrow that allows you to toggle between the active sources, displaying information for every of these.

Needless to say, the feature is still in its beginning in the two browsers, so additional refinements might be included in the coming updates. Additionally, it's impossible to disable the media controls overlay at this time in the settings screen from the browsers.

But the great news is that this feature is run by a flag called:

Hardware Media Key Handling
#hardware-media-key-handling

This means that if you wish to disable the new controls, all that you should do would be to turn on this flag in the browser. To get this done in Microsoft Edge, here's that which you need to do.

First and all sorts of, you have to obviously run the most recent preview builds of Microsoft Edge - both Canary and Dev builds come with this flag, so it doesn't matter which testing branch you're currently on.

Next, within the address bar of the browser, type the next command:

edge://flags

While using search engine at the top of the screen, look for the flag simply by typing its name:

Hardware Media Key Handling

Like a shortcut, you can just copy the next code and paste it in the address bar of Microsoft Edge to quickly get to the aforementioned flag:

chrome://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling

The default state of the flag in the present builds of Microsoft Edge (and Google Chrome too) is enabled, so if you want to switch off this feature, you have to click the drop-down menu and switch it to disabled. You're gonna need to reboot the browser to save your changes.

As the aforementioned media controls overlay would no longer appear, it's vital that you know that this flag also disables support for media controls altogether. This means you won't be able to control the active media session while using multimedia keys in your keyboard, and you'll have to rely on mouse input for such tasks.

Microsoft announced in late 2018 that it'd switch Edge browser towards the Chromium engine, the same one that's getting used by Google Chrome.

This decision technically allows Microsoft to convert Microsoft Edge from the Windows 10-exclusive browser to some cross-platform application.

The company has already confirmed Microsoft Edge would be released beyond Windows 10, and existing preview builds also permit the browser to be installed on macOS.

The migration to Chromium would technically permit the company to bring Edge to Linux as well, and given its efforts to obtain more active in the open-source world, this type of release wouldn't come as a surprise whatsoever.

Linux version possible in the long run

And after Microsoft suggested that it's indeed considering a Linux version of Edge in May at the Build developer conference, the Edge team now emphasizes this is "something we'd like to do in the future." However, the priority right now is to get the Windows and macOS ready for users first and only take a look into other projects.

"We haven't any technical blockers to stay from creating Linux binaries, and it's definitely something we want to do down the road. That being said, there is still work to make them "customer ready" (installer, updaters, user sync, bug fixes, etc.) and something we are proud to offer to you, therefore we aren't quite ready to commit to the work just yet," the team said in a reddit AMA.

"Right now, we're super centered on bringing stable versions of Edge first to other versions of Windows (as well as macOS), and then releasing our Beta channels. Having said that, we love hearing the ask and particularly love details if this sounds like vital that you your test infrastructure or elsewhere in your development lifecycle therefore we could validate and prioritize the work!"

Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 and macOS happens to be available as preview builds shipped through Dev and Canary channels. Beta builds aren't public at this time and there's no ETA as to once the production version of the browser could go live.

The end of Windows 10 Mobile altogether is simply nearby, as Microsoft just killed one of the last versions from the smartphone operating-system.

The June 2019 Patch Tuesday rollout marked the last update cycle for Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 (Creators Update), so moving forward, only devices running Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 still get security updates.

"Windows 10 Mobile, version 1703, reached end of service on June 11, 2019. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise won't receive monthly security and quality updates which contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating towards the new edition of Windows 10," Microsoft says.

Windows 10 Mobile pretty much gone already

Despite Windows 10 Mobile still being kept alive with security patches, the platform in general has been abandoned for many months already.

Microsoft recommended users to switch from Windows 10 Mobile to Android or iOS, especially as it's been working night and day to make all of its apps and services available on the two platforms.

At this point, the entire demise of Windows 10 Mobile is only a few time, as Microsoft will stop servicing version 1709, the last one still getting updates, in December 2019. Beyond this date, Windows 10 Mobile will cease to exist, and Microsoft will ultimately have the ability to leave behind what's become one of its biggest failed products.

However, considering that Windows 10 version 1709 isn't even available for a considerable part of the device base within the Windows mobile ecosystem, the platform seems obsolete anyway, especially when looking at the existing app portfolio which shrinks pretty much every day.

Apple considering a potential demise of the iTunes app isn't a brand new thing, but according to a brand new report, the company is actually very close to making the ultimate part of this regard.

Bloomberg says Apple would retire iTunes as soon as this season, and also the initial confirmation in connection with this could be offered at WWDC in a few days.

iTunes, which will very first time dark on macOS, however expect to get the ax on Windows too, is going to be replaced by as many as three standalone apps called Music, TV, and Podcasts. Through the looks of things, Apple hopes to create more consistency on its platforms, so the firm wants its desktop offering to come using the one on the iPhone.

"The Windows plans"

There's a great deal we don't know at this point, but Apple killing off iTunes and investing more in standalone apps might be a method to put the focus more on the services that are bringing home the bacon for the company.

Apple's services are currently one of the greatest cash cows for the Cupertino giant, and separate apps for each of them might eventually make it simpler for purchasers to use them regardless of platform, yet still time offering better consistency when switching from one device to a different.

Regarding plans for Windows 10, it's believed this specific version could stick around for any little longer than the macOS sibling, mostly because Apple wants the new method of be implemented gradually. Everything begins with its very own platform prior to being expanded to Windows at another time.

Apple has also released a Windows 10 version of iTunes, so presumably, the company is focusing on Store versions of Music, TV, and Podcasts too, albeit this is something which remains seen considering that Microsoft now also allows Win32 in the Microsoft Store.

We've known for some time that Google isn't really the biggest supporter of Microsoft products, but you'd think that the software giant moving its browser from EdgeHTML to Chromium would change this rather hostile approach.

After previously listing the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge as unsupported on the number of services, like Google Docs, Google is now going a step further and blocking the browser completely from connecting to the new version of YouTube.

As reported on Twitter, Edge can't be used to load the refreshed YouTube interface, of course, not without changing the consumer agent to emulate Google Chrome.

"Your browser is not supported. Check it out using the latest Google Chrome," a message displayed on YouTube reads once the page is loaded in the new Microsoft Edge browser.

As a result, Windows 10 and macOS users who installed Microsoft Edge preview on their own devices are tied to the old form of YouTube.

"Google says it's just a bug"

Restricting access to the new YouTube isn't necessarily surprising, not due to Google attempting to favor its own browser, but because Edge is a work in progress. However, since the whole purpose is to test both service and the browser, such a restriction makes no sense, as users would virtually be blocked from testing out the brand new YouTube if the limitation stays in place.

In a statement, however, Google says everything is simply any sort of accident and offers to resolve it as soon as you possibly can.

"We're aware that users of the preview form of Chromium-based Edge are now being redirected to the old form of YouTube. We're trying to address this problem. We're committed to supporting YouTube on Edge and apologize for just about any inconvenience this may be causing," Google says.

Microsoft Edge happens to be obtainable in preview for Windows 10 and macOS, and a testing version for older Windows releases is expected within the coming months.

Huawei has registered a trademark for its upcoming operating system designed to replace Android and Windows on its own devices.

Called Hongmeng, the operating-system turned up within the documents of the Trademark Office of China's National Intellectual Property Administration earlier this year, confirming that Huawei is working at full speed on getting it ready for launch.

As per CGTN, the applying was submitted on August 24, 2018, and also the Hongmeng trademark is valid between May 14, 2019, and May 13, 2029.

Huawei trying to register the Hongmeng trademark in the summer of 2018 implies that the organization indeed expected a potential ban that will restrict the use of Android and Windows. Huawei officials said on several occasions these were working on an in-house operating system to replace Windows and Android, but the company only accelerated the development of this project once the Usa government set new restrictions over its licensing handles American companies.

Earlier this year, US President Mr . trump signed a purchase banning Huawei from receiving any products from companies located in the Usa, including here Google and Microsoft, both of which provide the Chinese tech giant with os's for its devices.

Huawei's smartphones run Android, whereas the laptops it sells worldwide are run by Windows.

"Universal operating system"

Hongmeng is thus designed to replace each of them, and based on the information we received so far, is developed as a universal platform that will run on both smartphones and tablets. This idea isn't new, as Microsoft itself attempted to make Windows 10 a practical system for all types of devices, and Huawei hopes it will make this happen with Hongmeng.

Based on Huawei officials, Hongmeng is projected to launch in China as soon as this year, while the international debut should take place in 2020.

The larger challenge for Huawei, however, isn't to develop a practical system, but to produce the app ecosystem that would support its adoption. And Huawei officials know this.

"It's not really a difficult task to come up with a new OS, but it's difficult to build up an ecosystem for that," Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei was quoted as saying by the cited source.

Hongmeng includes Huawei's own App Gallery pre-installed, so users would have access to pick apps already available in this app store. However, it'll be hard for the company to expand it in order to become a worthy option to Google Play Store.

Starting with the Chromium form of Microsoft Edge includes the ability to create multiple profiles.

A profile is meant to permit you to share the web browser with other users without them interfering with information. Every profile you add keeps all the info separate, such as history, favorites, passwords, and other settings.

In addition, support for profiles is a handy feature when you want to use different Microsoft accounts and you wish to keep your things, for example personal and work, separate.

Within this guide, you'll learn the key to produce a new profile on the Microsoft Edge browser based on the Chromium project for Windows 10.

How you can give a new profile on Microsoft Edge

To produce a new profile around the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge, begin using these steps:

Open Microsoft Edge.

Click on the Settings and much more (three-dotted) button on the top-right corner.

Choose the Settings option.

Click on Profiles.

Click the Add profile button on the top-right.

Select a name for the profile. For instance, if you're creating a profile to keep your things separate, you can use a name like "Work".

Select an image to identify the profile.

Click the Add button.

Once you complete the steps, the brand new profile will open as an entirely different process, which could include its own settings, bookmarks, history, passwords, and cookies.

You could repeat the instructions outlined above to create additional profiles.

While we're focusing this informative guide on Windows 10, you can also use these steps to create additional Microsoft Edge profiles for Windows 8.1, Windows 7, and macOS.
